Coming Soon! from Terificreations's Weblog

Happy Wednesday Friends! I posted this on one of the social media channels yesterday: Musings over coffee:Quilting is a gift filled with promise, hope, simplicity, complexity, beauty, hot messness. Each one of us gets to show the sublime uniqueness of our self, it is sometimes incredibly vulnerable and sometimes guarded like a castle surrounded by… Continue reading Coming Soon!

ONE SMALL FINISH from The Proficient Needle

I completed the small panel quilt first, doing simple free-motion quilting using my Bernina.
I spent the evening hand stitching the binding, and this morning asked DH to hold the finished quilt so I could take a picture for my records.

My next quilt in line is my "52 Blocks 52 Weeks" project from the Canadian Quilters Association in 2019.
This is a much larger project, so I am taking my time, working on it between other chores.
I managed to plant 2 more herbs, 2 perennials and some annuals for summer colour in my tiny garden areas in front ...

OFF TO A GOOD START from The Proficient Needle

Since I still had my small collection of Christmas fabric on the cutting table, I hunted through my saved patterns, and decided to try the "Gather 'Round Runner" pattern from Iowa Star Quilts, that was part of their year of runners in 2006.

The background fabric is a poinsettia print with silver highlights, and I used the remainder of the piece!  This will go in my collection of items for the boutique at my guild's next quilt show.

I soaked the beans for 15 bean soup last night, so this morning, I drained the soaking water, and added fresh ...

QUILTING PROGRESS from The Proficient Needle

My Jewel Box Stars quilt is quilted, all but the final border!  I have been working on it for a couple of hours everyday since Christmas.
I am using Superior Thread for my quilting, with Bottom Line in the bobbin, and 2 colours of Twist in the needle.  I am planning on using a variegated thread on the plain yellow border.

I work each day until my arms are tired, from moving this large quilt through my machine.
I machine quilt, using my Bernina B710.  It has a larger throat space, and wonderful tension for stitching free motion!

Now I ...

I CAN'T BELIEVE ANOTHER MONTH HAS PASSSED! from The Proficient Needle

We've been having fun!  DH and his friends have been busy bringing Christmas cheer to local nursing homes, rehab centers and senior residences, playing music, telling jokes and having fun interacting with the residents.
In our community, we've had a Christmas sing-a-long, and decorated golf cart parade, food and toy drives for the local community, and we have caroling planned for Sunday evening, with 22 homes to visit, to let our neighbors know that we are thinking about them too.
My southern quilting group has been busy, with large and small finishes being shared each week.  We had ...

New Quilt - Sneak Peek from Daphne Greig

I just finished this new project, Panorama. I used fabrics from The View from Here, an upcoming collection from Northcott.

My quilt will be hanging in Northcott's booth at International Quilt Market (Booth #522) and fabrics will be arriving in quilt shops in April 2020 and my pattern will be available then.

Here are a few close-ups so you can see the quilting designs. Special thanks to Calico Cupboard for being open on a Sunday so I could get the variety of thread colours I needed for this piece!

The sparkly thread is Glitter by Superior Threads. It worked ...

ANOTHER MISSED PROJECT! from The Proficient Needle

During our June meeting, our out-going guild president announced a challenge.  Those who chose to participate, pulled a box front from a large brown envelope, and had to complete a project of their choice, using all the colours on the box.

Of course, I forgot all about it until a couple of days before our meeting in September.  They only work I had done towards the project, was to pull one piece of fabric from my stash.

I spent some time planning the project using EQ8, and I even printed two parts so I could paper piece them.

My quilt ...
